Best Bollywood Sequels

Bollywood was among the last entrants in the sequel ‘trend’. Some of these sequels did not work, because well, the story was neglected just to make money. But some sequels took the first movie as the stepping stone to create something better and bigger. Here are 10 such movies which successfully did so and made a lot of money in the box office.

1. Krrish:

Directed by Rakesh Roshan, Krrish was among the first
sequels in the Hindi film industry. The movie showed some great visual effects and made some great money in the box office. Hrithik is always in top form and his performance took the movie to another level.

2. Dhoom 2:

Dhoom 2 was big. On so many levels. Hrithik played the uber cool thief very well. His pairing with Aishwarya was great and worked its charm on the audience. The scale of the movie is apparent.

3. Don 2:

Don was a remake of the Amitabh Bachchan classic. Shahrukh and Farhan took it to another level by making a sequel! All Don 2 needed to have was a good script and competent acting. And when you have actors like Om Puri, Boman Irani, Shahrukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra, your job is half done.

4. Dabangg 2:

Dabangg also, was such a fun movie that all Dabangg 2 needed to do was have a little backbone and it was sure to work. And it did. Salman was at ease in Chulbul Pandey’s role. And the movie minted money just like its predecessor.

5. Golmaal Returns:

Golmaal was one of my favorite comedies in a while. Golmaal Returns added Kareena to the already talented cast and was sure to succeed. The movie could have been better but without a doubt it was successful.

6. Lage Raho Munnabhai:

Gandhigiri worked! And how! Rajkumar Hirani is the King Midas of Bollywood. Whatever he touches turns to gold. And this movie was very well made and the audience loved it. Easily one of the best movies on this list.

7. Aashiqui 2:

When the first Aashiqui released, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor were infants. One of the main selling points of Aashiqui 2 was its music. Without any star power, this movie with relatively new stars, earned 100 crores. And that is something!

8. Dedh Ishqiya:

Ishqiya was a beautifully made film. Dedh Ishqiya took it up a notch. The welcome addition of Madhuri Dixit and Huma Qureshi made the movie even better. And Naseeruddin Sir’s presence guarantees a good movie. Successful and well made.

9. Bhoothnath Returns:

Elections and India have a weird relation. Everyone here has a political opinion. But no one gives substance to their opinion by voting. And Bhoothnath added that element to the movie with the usual harmless fun perfectly. Boman Irani is always good. Also, there are welcome appearances from SRK and Ranbir Kapoor.

10. Singham Returns:

Singham was very successful. Ajay Devgan’s intensity stood out. While Singham Returns wasn’t as good, it sure as hell was more successful. The movie was pretty good overall. But hugely successful because of the Ajay-Kareena pairing and a good script which is hard to find these days.
